I slept in until 1pm! Think I’m recovering from the jet lag. Today I’m in Tokyo.
I had a lovely time at the Mipig Micro pig Café Where we got lots of piggy cuddles in our private booth. They were so cute and well cared for. If we put them down they would jump straight back into our laps so that was a good sign that they wanted to be with us! That or they liked the body heat. At a couple of points I had two happy sleepy piggies on mе!
Then we went to the Sanrio café. There was a bit of a wait but not too bad. The food was really tasty! I had a caramel almond crepe and a fresh cream cake. I also tried a nice matcha latté. It was sweet rather than bitter.
Then we tried taiyaki which is Ayu’s favourite food from the Kanon anime so I was really excited to try it. The batter is like a pancake and inside is red bean curd. It’s an interesting combo as beans are very floury and savoury- you don’t expect them to be sweet!
Then we checked out a couple of Japans most famous shops – book off, Uniqlo and Don quijote. Book off is a second hand shop that sells all kinds of stuff but this one mostly did sell books. I bought two children’s ones to try and improve my Japanese reading. Uniqlo was a bit disappointing – all the clothes were quite plain. However Don Quijote was AWESOME! There was lots of cute stuff and I went a bit mad trying it all. I got socks, bags, a t-shirt, hair clips – there was a lot! My case is now very full but I have lots of exciting goodies for when I get home.
After that we got the Yamamote Line (tube) back to our hotel. It’s one of Japans “Love Hotels” which means basically what you think it does. Because of this you can rent them by the hour! I think this is such a cool idea and it’s a real shame we don’t have them in the UK. Often I’m on a day trip and get tired, needing a rest or a break from overstimulation. This would be amazing for those times as it’d mean I could stay out rather than having to cut my trip short. The hotel is a little strange by uk customs, the reception is fashioned so you don’t see the receptionist and they don’t see you to protect your privacy. In the room there was a hot tub and lots of amenities. I ended up having a lovely pamper evening with a bath and provided face mask. They also provided a yukata so I got to try one on for the first time.
